National Pond Monitoring Network

PSYM Method

PSYM (pronounced "sim") stands for Predicitive SYstem for Multimetrics.

This method provides the data needed to get an assessment of the ecological quality of a site compared to ponds nationally. It involves collecting basic environmental information including pH, and identifying the plant species and / or invertebrate families found using a standard survey method. Note, the survey method is identical to that of the National Pond Survey, though PSYM requires identification of invertebrate families rather than species.

The assessment can be carried out via this website and data entered will be added to the National Ponds Database.
